Member Roles
Volunteer Roles Overview
Nehar Shalom Community Synagogue
Each adult community member is expected to volunteer for one of the below roles (SetUp and Greeter, Clean Up, and Kiddush Set Up and Clean Up) once per quarter. Opportunities to sign up will be shared regularly. Please reach out to any board member if you have any questions.
Set Up and Greeter

Arrive: 30 min before the event begins

Shabbat morning: arrive by 9am

Erev Shabbat: arrive by 6pm

Finish: Plan to stay through:

Shabbat morning: 11am (though we welcome you to stay longer!)

Erev Shabbat: 8pm (end of service)

Your first job is to help with set up: Nehar Shalom Setting-Up Checklist

Once people start to arrive, your job is to be a welcoming presence to all who walk through the doors

Hang out in the hallway or sit in the back of the big room so you can hear the main doors open

Notice everyone who enters, and do your best to greet them in a friendly way

Help people figure out where they are going, if they need a kippa, mask bathroom, book, page number, etc

Cynthia will email you the week before to ensure you know the code to the lockbox, which allows you to enter the building

You are not responsible for setting up chairs! Shabbat and holiday services have a sexton who will set up the furniture (tables, chairs, reading table, etc) and A/V equipment

Clean Up (after services)
-
Arrive: We hope you will participate in the service/program

Finish: Clean-up usually takes about 15 minutes, and can begin as soon as the service is done. We do not ask you to stay through the end of kiddush or to close-up the building.

Shabbat morning: clean-up is done between 12:15 and 12:30pm

Erev Shabbat: clean up is done around 8:15pm

You are not responsible for kiddush set up or clean up!

Kiddush Shopping - done earlier in the week before a Kiddush event

A representative from CEC will email at least a week in advance to coordinate
logistics for shopping, which can vary between services.
Kiddush Set-Up and Clean-Up

Arrive: Please be sure you are at services by 11:30 as some kiddush set-up
happens before the service is finished -
Finish: On a regular week, please plan to stay until 1pm. If there is a simcha or
other special event, the CEC will let you know about timing. -
Know: There should be two people assigned for kiddush set up and clean up for
each service. -
