Membership with Nehar Shalom
Being a member of Nehar Shalom is an opportunity to co-create our community. As our congregation continues to grow and change, members play an important role in making decisions about who we are and how we do things. Becoming a member is a way of saying you care about the future of Jewish community in Jamaica Plain. It says you want to have a voice in the vision of Nehar Shalom.
It’s also a way of saying you know that your presence matters in our community. Whether this is participating in services, family programs, or learning; giving or receiving a meal or other kinds of support; sharing your own celebrations and losses, and joining others in both joy and sorrow, your presence matters!
While everyone is welcome at our services and programs, members get the first chance to register when spaces are limited. Members receive regular Shabbat emails from the rabbi and participate in a members-only listserv. And members have special access to pastoral counseling, lifecycle support, and learning with Rabbi Leora.
*PLEASE NOTE* Membership renewal takes place in May and June. If you are joining at a different time of the year, please select your dues amount based on how much of the year is left, so you then can be put on the May/June renewal cycle.
We are proud of our membership policy that reflects inclusive values. Our suggested dues are 1% of household income, which allows each household to determine an affordable amount, without the need to justify. If this is a barrier to membership, we encourage you to contribute an amount that is meaningful and affordable. We value our members for all of their contributions –
monetary and otherwise.
